Here we are again, November 15th, 6:00am the cool morning air and the faint view of the sunrise over the trees. The most desired morning of the entire year. You’ve successfully made it into your stand, taken a deep breath, loaded your 12 gauge, and now all that’s left to do is sit back, relax and wait.

A little time has passed it’s now 9:49am, you’re growing somewhat impatient, then all of a sudden to your right you hear the rustle of some leaves and the breaking of sticks on the ground. You sit up straight, pull your gun to your shoulder and peer through your scope and there it is, there you see him. Your knees, legs and hands are shaking, your mouth is dry, your eyes are wide open as ever, the target is center in your scope, this is the moment you’ve waited for all year, and you take a deep breath, focus and pull the trigger BANG!

There you sit and eighty yards away lays your satisfaction and excitement for the morning. Your patience and hard work paid off. You climb down from your stand smiling from ear to ear and head to claim your reward.

If only I were as passionate about God as I am hunting. The satisfaction of a successful hunt is something exciting and rewarding, yet like many other things in my life is only a temporary high. I sometimes find myself searching the world high and low to see what I can get to fill me or satisfy me but each time it only leaves me emptier than before. The truth in my search for satisfaction is that God is the only one who can fully satisfy ever desire and need. It comes back to trust, we have to trust that God is better than the bad or even good things we seek to satisfy us. Sometimes for me, it requires me saying every day, “God, you ARE enough for me today and you ARE the only thing that will not leave me alone, dry or empty at the end of the day so I WILL trust you and I WILL seek to find satisfaction in you and only you.” So just like I desire a successful hunt on November 15th to put a smile on my face, meat in the freezer and a nice rack on the wall, I want to desire you every single day. I want to be patient and wait on You like I waited for the deer in the morning, I want my heart to beat rapidly like the hunt, and I want to seek satisfaction in my eternal reward.

As for me, I shall behold Your face in righteousness; I will be satisfied with Your likeness when I awake.
Psalm 17:15

How blessed is the one whom You choose and bring near to You to dwell in Your courts. We will be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, Your holy temple. Psalm 65:4

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Matthew 5:6
